Cisco: the VoWiFi Dark Horse?

One week old article IT World Canada about the lack of standards in space VoWiFi has some interesting thoughts on the VoWiFi space, but the most interesting is the thought of all the notion that Cisco, of all players, took the better ecosystem of any Enterprise VoWiFi communications company. This is interesting because the thought Cisco has been particularly in space, opting to focus much of its next generation of communications efforts with their video Telepresence technology.

It is not very easy to use and reliable or we are not going to talk about the costs associated with a deployment. However, given the existing technology that owns Cisco is intriguing that they have yet to make a strong move. Since the rumor about the mobile VoIP and Fixed Mobile Convergence one would think that becomes more. Is it simply a VoWiFi dark horse? Or who left technology in the barn because I do not think it has legs? .

Presentation Describing How to Do Remote Eavesdropping on A Cisco Phone

Here is a presentation describing how to listen remotely using a telephone Cisco. This is not a new vulnerability and Cisco has created an advisory work and around it, but this is still a useful set of instructions to execute the attack: http://www. Hack. Lu/pres/hacklu07_Remote_wiretapping. PdfI also put a copy in the "Presentations interesting" list.

Uber-Users - Cisco has something for you on March 4

I got this very interesting and intriguing link about some big news coming from Cisco on March 4. It’s a very slickly produced commercial that shows how web-savvy Cisco is becoming, and it’s quite fun to watch. Since followers of this blog are uber-users - aren’t you? - I thought I’d pass this on and do some free advertising for Cisco. They’ve done a great job putting this together, and it’s hard not to spend a few minutes exploring all the messages and visuals, as they build up your interest in.

I had a few glimpses of this at their recent analyst conference and there’s a lot of Web 2. 0 and video driving their business now. They know how to make Telepresence look exciting, and I’m sure this will be along the same lines, but likely on a broader scale. Anyhow, that’s enough speculating for now. Just go the link and see for yourself - and I’ll look for you on the call.

Bell and Cisco Partnering on Managed Services

Today started off with an early briefing at 8:30 with Cisco and Bell Canada. That’s what this post is about, and I had every intention of getting this written and posted by 9am, but boy has the day zoomed by. I’m off to New York for the next two days on consulting work, and there has been a non-stop stream of things to tie up, so here we are. So, when Bell and Cisco asks you to be on a briefing at 8:30 the morning back after a long weekend, you gotta figure this is big news.

Let’s not forget that the privatization track for Bell is a bit shaky these days, and they need all the good news stories they can get. I’m sure Cisco recognized they could help Bell’s cause with such a move, as they need to do whatever it takes to hold on to their customers. It will be interesting to see what MTS Allstream and Telus do in response. Technorati tags: Cisco, Jon Arnold, Bell Canada .

Thoughts on Linksys -> Cisco Rebranding

Cisco CEO John Chambers recently alluded to a planned rebranding of their consumer division Linksys, with Linksys products assuming the Cisco name. Cisco is eager to transcend its roots from an industrial backbone routing and switching behemoth, to reach into the home, which is an increasingly sophisticated environment with residential consumers taking advantage of the myriad digital services available for delivery over common household broadband connections, including VoIP (Voice Over IP), Wir.

The combined technological assets of these three (Linksys, KiSS Technologies and Scientific Atlanta) could produce some compelling product offerings. Anyone who has viewed Cisco’s Human Network branding and marketing initiative can feel the new vibe Cisco is trying to propagate as it attempts to transcend the data center and the telco closet. .

Cisco’s Slew of Vulnerabilities

Yesterday, Cisco released an advisory detailing a number of vulnerabilities which covered most recent versions of their IP phones, essentially the “Unified IP Phone” set of products, running both firmwares for SCCP and SIP. The covered vulnerabilities include a DNS Response Parsing Overflow, a Large ICMP Echo Request DoS, an HTTP Server DoS, an SSH Server DoS, a SIP MIME Boundary Overflow, a Telnet Server Overflow, and a SIP Proxy Response Overflow.

It would seem that as the rush continues for VoIP innovation and a quick to market product, much of these products’ security assessment due-diligence, not to mention many of their security features, are still being left in the dust…  Or at best, left for a firmware or software update post-launch. .
