Cisco disclosed that the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), formerly CallManager, contains a heap overflow vulnerability in the Certificate Trust List (CTL) Provider service that could allow a remote, unauthenticated user to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition or execute arbitrary code. I was down in Orlando this week for the annual HIMMS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) conference and exhibition, a show dedicated to transforming healthcare through IT. This is a new space for me, so I attended with the view of taking in as much as I possibly could in the short time I had at the show. I’d also like to send a great big thank you out to Michael Carr of IgeaCare, who took the time to shepherd me around the event. The overall eHealth market is poised for tremendous growth. In fact a recent report from INPUT positions the market for Federal government healthcare IT spending a poised to grow by 7. 1% (CAGR), from $3. 2 billion this year to over $4. 5 billion in 2013. My latest Service Provider Views article was posted the other day, and I wanted to share it with you here. This time around, I did a Q&A interview with Catharine Trebnick, Senior Research Analyst at America’s Growth Capital. I wanted this column to focus how investment markets are looking at service providers, and Catharine had lots of good insights to offer. Along those lines, just to tie things up here, Catharine and I recently did a webinar together that was very well received. We’re hoping to do more of these, so that just may be the place to explore this in more depth. Will let you know how things progress. Been trying to get to this one all afternoon. Ike Elliott had a really great post earlier today about the state of the US residential VoIP market. He’s provided keen insights around a few sets of data points showing how the market shares break down. He and I follow this space quite a bit, so it’s great to share his thoughts with my readers. Basically, Ike is showing how the cablecos have strengthened their grip on this market since last year, and at this point, Vonage is a distant #3 with 15%. Lots of angles to explore here, and it’s great that Ike has taken the time to put these numbers together. I also find his post to be a nice reprise to my recent Service Provider Views article about Vonage and their recent Q4 numbers. Ike was nice enough to start some dialog with me about this, and now that he’s posted his views, you’re welcome to jump in and join the conversation. |

I love when companies give Walt Mossberg to prove something, and even more so when it comes to Walt extra hard to make something easy to understand, as he did today. The fund in its review of the T-Mobile @ HOME service points out the warts of the system, particularly the system of Home Alarm and fax machine. The Home Alarm issue can be resolved by Next likely alarm, as its broadband network alarm is the ideal complement to an IP-based telephone system. The Walt referring to the AMU is and how T-Mobile ATM uses to transmit data from one point to another. Your IP end to end, but does not use the Internet from home to ATM backbone. I am glad he said that because it differs from other services already out there that make use of SIP and IP end to end as Earthlink's TrueVoice, BroadVoice and CallVantage mostly, although some users are in MGCP. |

More on Bugtraq, another Asterisk vulnerability has been announced. Several buffer overflows affects version below: ———-&# 8212 ;———— Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected —— —— ———– 1 net-misc/asterisk = 1. I had hoped to find the link to patch more effective Asterisk, but I do not see even the right of reference. The CVE # 's are all from 2007, but the announcement appears to be from 2008. If somebody finds the link, send me a line or leave it in the comments. In a note less, UNIStim Nortel Networks IP Phone with firmware version 0604DAS is vulnerable to a ping of death. |
