BETA Perl script for Mac OS X or Windows users for Caller ID popups when using Linksys/Sipura devices

photo credit: bcostin PLEASE NOTE: This is a repeat of an article that ran yesterday.   This now works with a Mac or Win32 computer and has been updated to reflect that fact. If all of the following are true: You have a Macintosh computer with OS X installed, or a PC with any 32-bit version of Windows installed (basically Windows ‘98 through XP) You have Growl (on a Mac) or Snarl (on a PC) notifications installed You have a Linksys or Sipura VoIP adapter on your local subnet or home netwo.

So for now, this script will probably only be useable by those with sufficient knowledge to run a Perl script on their Mac. If I were a bit more knowledgeable, I’d build a preference pane to go in System Preferences, and then have the script read that for its configuration options. But I still have no idea how to make an app install missing Perl modules, particularly when OS X does not come with “make” installed until and unless the Developer Tools are installed.

IP Communications Insights is Launched

Well, the day has finally come. The venture I’ve been working on with fellow indie consultant, Marc Robins is finally hatched. We remain indie consultants, but are pitching our tent a bit further out under the guise of IP Communications Insights. The press release hit the wires this morning, and if you haven’t seen it, you can read it here. So, after reading the press release, I’d love for you to visit our portal, IP Communications Insights, and tell us what you think.

Marc and I have been doing our own thing for a while now, but together, we think this idea makes sense, and we very much want our portal to be a voice for other independent analysts and thought leaders. More to come, for sure, but I have to get on my way to eComm now, and maybe I’ll see you there, and we can talk more about it. .

VoIP Buying Trends and Customer Trust

Phone orders versus Web Orders Are buyers on the Internet rely on the Internet when they have to make purchasing decisions of the dollar high? One dollar high purchasing decision is relative to each person, and some people tend to feel more comfortable when spending hundreds others online. Apparently, most prefer to take the phone and call the 1-800 number listed on the site to place an order over a certain dollar amount.

If people have questions about the new technology, the trends suggest they are more likely to call in to place an order. From my research, Web orders may increase over time emphasizing customer service. If people have a fantastic first experience of buying from us over the telephone, you may be more prone to "check-out" on the site next time.

Cisco: the VoWiFi Dark Horse?

One week old article IT World Canada about the lack of standards in space VoWiFi has some interesting thoughts on the VoWiFi space, but the most interesting is the thought of all the notion that Cisco, of all players, took the better ecosystem of any Enterprise VoWiFi communications company. This is interesting because the thought Cisco has been particularly in space, opting to focus much of its next generation of communications efforts with their video Telepresence technology.

It is not very easy to use and reliable or we are not going to talk about the costs associated with a deployment. However, given the existing technology that owns Cisco is intriguing that they have yet to make a strong move. Since the rumor about the mobile VoIP and Fixed Mobile Convergence one would think that becomes more. Is it simply a VoWiFi dark horse? Or who left technology in the barn because I do not think it has legs? .

BETA Perl script for Mac OS X users for Caller ID popups when using Linksys/Sipura devices

Photo: bcostin If all of the following are true: You have a Mac with OS X installed Has installed Growl notifications You have a Linksys Sipura adapter or VoIP in its local subnet or home network and receive calls that he would like to see pop Growl - ups on your computer when a call comes, which displays the name and number, along with the line which came in the call and the time and date of the call arrived (in the event that when they are out of the call comes a) Self.

So for now, this script probably only be used by those with enough knowledge to execute a Perl script on your Mac. If I were a little more knowledge, I am building a preference pane to go in the System Preferences, and then have to read the script for its configuration options. But I still have no idea how to make an application to be installed Perl modules, especially when OS X does not come with "doing" in place until and unless the Developer Tools are installed.
